The Stewards of Small Chair
WHAT IS STEWARDSHIP?
For me, Stewardship is taking care of something on behalf of it’s rightful owner. Stewardship is the core concept behind Small Chair Consulting. My desire is to come alongside owners and founders to help them realize their vision for their companies. In that context, Stewardship means that my role is not to build it for myself, but for the people responsible for the firm.
WHY STEWARDSHIP?
The concept of Small Chair came to me while reading Tolkein’s The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. The king of Gondor had been absent for more than three decades, leaving the responsibility of caring for the kingdom to the Stewards. The Stewards never sought to take the kings’ throne, instead seating themselves in a small chair at the foot of the dais, awaiting the king’s return. From my SMALL CHAIR, my role is to support and guide your company with care and expertise, allowing you to lead with vision and confidence from the throne.
A LITTLE BIT ABOUT ANDREW
Though not technically a Colorado Native, I’ve claimed Fort Collins as my hometown for the past 30 years. I met my wife Haley while attending Colorado State University and we’re working on raising our two crazy boys to be young men of character and consequence here in Northern Colorado. If you couldn’t tell by the previous paragraph, I’m a pretty big nerd and enjoy strategy table-top games, reading sci-fi and fantasy books and watching baseball (even though my Colorado Rockies continue to break my heart). I love adventuring with my wife and sons near home and abroad. For me personally, Stewardship is an important part of my faith, where caring for this world and its people is a distinct responsibility that I have to the rightful owner and Creator.

“The first job of a leader - at work or at home - is to inspire trust. It's to bring out the best in people by entrusting them with meaningful stewardships, and to create an environment in which high-trust interaction inspires creativity and possibility.”
Stephen Covey
